Island Breeze - History of Luaus
A luau is a traditional Hawaiian feast coupled with entertainment such as hula dancing. Ancient Hawaiians would sit on the sand and enjoy foods such as poi and Kalua pork. Only royal men were allowed to attend luaus. King Kamehameha II, however, broke the old 'Kapu' system by allowing women to feast in his presence. Now luaus have evolved into celebrations that anyone can enjoy as an opportunity to not only learn about Hawaiian and Polynesian Culture, but simply have a great time.
